Wotton, Dorian wishes for the portrait to age instead of him. As Dorian lives a life of moral corruption, the portrait grows grotesque, and he eventually murders the painter, Basil Hallward, to hide his secret. Ultimately, Dorian destroys the portrait, which kills him, and his body becomes old and hideous while the painting returns to its original, beautiful state.
